Tax and Equality - or Inequality?
In April 2022, Minister Parker announced that a Tax Principles Bill would be drafted. With the prospect of a legislative framework that sets out tax principles for Aotearoa New Zealand, precisely what principles should be included in the Bill and how they are interpreted is now wide open for discussion. Join us at Tax on Tuesdays as we begin to explore the possibilities.

Tax and Equality - Or Inequality?, Max Rashbrooke
12:30 – 1:30pm, Tuesday 6 December
Rutherford House Lecture Theatre 3

also available on Zoom
Should equality, and the reduction of inequalities, be a fundamental principle of our tax system? What would that actually mean: what difference would it make to our present system? Is there any difference between the goals of ‘equality’ and ‘fairness’? Our political parties will be hotly debating ideas on tax over the next year: will their policies reduce or worsen inequality – and what other, better ideas might be out there? Max Rashbrooke will talk about his vision for the design of the tax system, and set the scene for election year.
