Tax on Tuesdays: Trusts and Tax

Join us for the next session, exploring the proposals outlined in our recently released Tax Policy Statement.

We have an abnormally high number of trusts in this country, compared with many others in the world, and they are currently often used as a vehicle for legal tax avoidance. We think there is room for reform in this space.

Terry Baucher (Speaker)

Terry has worked in tax for over 40 years and has been the Managing Director of boutique tax consultancy Baucher Consulting since 2004. The firm provides tax advice on a range of issues including cross-border issues for individuals, trusts, SMEs and accounting and law firms. Terry is a regular commentator in the media and is the host of the podcast Te wiki o te tāke – The New Zealand Tax Podcast. 

Jonathan Barrett (Speaker)

Jonathan is a professor in taxation and commercial law at Te Herenga Waka Victoria University of Wellington. His research speciality is taxation and human rights. He is currently the President of the Australasian Tax Teachers and Association (ATTA), editor of the Journal of ATTA and guest editor of the Journal of Australian Taxation. 

Edward Miller (MC)

Edward Miller has worked in the labour movement for than a decade, both in Aotearoa and across the Asia Pacific region. He is currently working as a researcher at the Centre for International Corporate Tax Accountability and Research, generating impactful corporate research to support union negotiations, campaigning and policy development.
